Pete Wernick's Bluegrass Jam Camp in Oak Hill, NY
Pete Wernick’s Bluegrass Jam Camp Precedes Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival
Pete Wernick ("Dr. Banjo") brings his nationally renowned Bluegrass Jam Camp back to Oak Hill, NY, July 15-17, preceding the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival. Oak Hill is the new location of the festival. The camp is open to pickers of ALL bluegrass instruments, of all skill levels. Jamming experience is not necessary.
The only requirement is the ability to play rhythm for the following chords: G, C, D, A. Instrumental soloing and fast playing are not required or expected. Campers learn to follow chord changes, pick out melodies, improvise solos, sing harmony, and follow the ground rules of bluegrass jamming in supervised small groups. Pete will be assisted by his wife, singer/guitarist Joan Wernick and multi-instrumentalist Ira Gitlin.
Pete Wernick taught his first weeklong bluegrass camp in 1980, and over 100 bluegrass and banjo camps since. He will perform in the bluegrass supergroup Hot Rize, as they, along with Red Knuckles & The Trailblazers, headline this year’s Grey Fox Festival.
Along with the much-heralded move of the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival to a location near Albany, NY, Pete Wernick's 6th annual Bluegrass Jam Camp at Grey Fox will move to a nearby venue, the firehouse in Oak Hill, just down the road from the new festival entrance. "Air conditioned, with plenty of parking," says Pete. "All skill levels on all instruments are welcome to the camp."
