Free fiddle workshops and jams at "Fiddle Hell Massachusetts"
Fiddlers only:
I'd like to personally invite you to attend Fiddle Hell, for a few hours, a day, or the whole weekend, at the Stagecoach Inn in Groton, MA from 6PM Friday to 6PM, Sunday, November 14-16, 2008.
The main activities are fiddle workshops, jams, and a gathering on Saturday night for each fiddler to play a tune and for all of us to play some tunes together (hence the name "Fiddle Hell"). I expect New England, bluegrass, Irish, Texas, Cape Breton, swing, oldtime, and other styles to be represented, and there are fiddlers coming from as far away as Texas, Florida, England, and Wales!
It’s probably best for beginning - intermediate fiddlers and up, although fiddlers at any level can come to listen and jam.
In addition to jam sessions, we have several very interesting workshops planned, such as bowing styles and accents. Also, some loose jams in particular styles, like Irish, Scottish, Oldtime and Western Swing. And slow-speed tune workshops to prepare for the common tunes on Saturday night. We have invited quite a few local players (fiddlers and otherwise) to join in the jams. Underage fiddlers are welcome (although they can’t drink at the bar!).
Fiddle Hell is free (although we’ll pass the hat for contributions to pay the Inn for the use of their common areas). It’s loosely sponsored by the online fiddle discussion group at www.fiddleforum.com There’s more info on my website, including the schedule and a list of common tunes.
We're also organizing a set of "Pre-Fiddle-Hell" workshops from 10AM-5PM on November 14th; stay tuned for more info on these.
The Stagecoach Inn is at 128 Main Street, Route 119, in Groton, Massachusetts. It’s a beautiful country inn an hour west of Boston. If you need to reserve a room, rates are quite reasonable; call Vicki at (877)-782-4346.
I really hope you'll be able to make it. Email me or phone to confirm or if you need more info. Or just show up! However, we have very limited space for non-fiddlers -- please contact me first.
Also, please forward this invitation selectively if you know of other fiddlers who might be interested.
Best regards,
Dave Reiner
