The performance will feature a reprise of Headfirst in the Blue Fields of Grace composed by Aaberg and performed by the guest trio along with Kansas musicians, the Fairmont String Quartet and the Foofaraw Woodwind Quintet.
Additional music performed by Aaberg, Anger, and Friesen will be selected from the following: 1) other original works, 2) possible reinterpretations of 20th century chamber music works by Gershwin, Copland, et al, replacing the classical style with vernacular and blues-influenced approach, forsaking non e of the precision and virtuosity, and #) possible works from the early jazz tradition (Beiderbecke, Venuti, Armstrong) and American folk and string band tradition (Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers, fiddle music) developed in a chamber music context.
Several workshops are in the planning stages for the afternoon of the 5th and the morning of the 6th as part of the residency in Lawrence. Due to the requirements of the grant, most workshops are designed for youth and youth at risk and will take place, accordingly.
