Betse Ellis workshop: Help for Frustrated Fiddlers
I will be teaching a fiddle workshop, on November 8, in Lawrence, Kansas.
This will take place at the home of Marie Alice L'Heureux. (She has no
pets, so no allergy worries.)
I've been working on some ideas to help frustrated fiddlers -- if you have
things that bug you or you feel blocked in your playing, I think I can help!
We will learn some tunes, but also will spend a good amount of time with
music theory... Don't worry, it won't hurt a bit. The fiddle is a great
tool for theory and there are some easy "tricks" that I can show you.
If you feel you are nervous about keeping up with a group, please don't let
that stop you from attending. The techniques we will cover will help
players of all levels.
We'll get started at 10:30 am (plan to arrive around 10 or shortly after, to
get set up, tuned, etc) -- go until about noon, when we will break for
lunch. Our hostess will be serving a delicious meal for us! And then we
will commence again at about 1 pm, and go until about 4 or 4:30.
Along with lunch, our hostess has plenty of chairs to provide. You should
bring with you anything you want to drink.
The cost for the workshop will be $45 per person. You will want to bring
(besides your fiddle!) - some kind of recording device (video is ok) - it
should be a portable recorder so we don't overload the outlets. I will also
provide you with some printed materials to take home. We won't learn
anything from printed music - I will teach you the tunes with the notes and
the bowing at a pace that you can follow.
If you are interested, please contact me. I will be limiting the workshop
to 12 so as to give everyone personal attention. I will provide you with
directions as well, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks - please pass this on if you have friends who might be interested!
You can reach me at betswilder@gmail.com -- please note, I will be away from Sept 24-30 and cannot return calls until Oct 1. (I will have some access to email during that time.)
