Fiddle Workshop with Dan Levenson
Cabin Fever Fiddle Day
Let's Fiddle a Little
Session 1 - 12:30 - 2 (ish) - Old Time Fiddle style and technique. Learn traditional old time fiddle techniques as they apply to Appalachian string band music. Here is where we reinforce the basics and understand how to get the most out of your fiddle and yourself. The elements of fiddling we will be working on include tuning, Position - both of yourself and your instrument and Bowing — The tune comes from the notes; the MUSIC comes from the bowing and inflections you put into those notes. We work on playing to the tune, not the pattern.
Session 2 2 (ish) — 4:00 - Repertoire and more. We will continue from the morning with bowing inflection and playing the tune and continue into expanding your repertoire — learn how to play ANY tune, not just a few. Most traditional musicians play by ear even if they read music and this is important for jam sessions and learning later on.
Cross tuning is addressed if interest and skill level allow.
