Band bio:
Whether ballads and songs or fiddle tunes, The New Mules bring new life to the music they play.

The group differs in a couple of significant ways from the majority of those playing traditional music today. First, their music is from downstate Illinois rather than from the more usual southern sources. Second, this music is from the native region of the band's fiddlers, Garry and Genevieve Harrison, and their fiddle tunes were learned not from recordings but first-hand from senior players at their homes, just as the old folks had learned it years before.

Despite that the group is new, The New Mules have accumulated some honors. In January, they were asked to perform at Trad Fest, an event held at Chicago's Old Town School. And in August, they won first prize in the prestigious Traditional Band competition at the Appalachian String Band Music Festival in Clifftop, West Virginia.
