Pete Wernick's Intermediate Skills Winter Banjo Camp
For pickers with a few years experience, and have jamming experience.
* Good timing and tone
* Creating “believable” solos, improvising
* Practicing for maximum progress
* Clearing technical hurdles, gaining speed
* Knowing the neck, favorite licks
* Backup approaches and techniques
Intermediate camp qualifications are:
1. Ability to jam informally and follow chord changes.
2. Ability to create on your own and correctly execute, in time, a simple bluegrass banjo solo, based on a melody.
Important note: If you don’t have BOTH of the above skills, you are not qualified for Intermediate Banjo camp. This is true even if you can correctly play arrangements from tablature, have been taking lessons for years, know Earl Scruggs personally, etc. etc.
These skills are fundamental to knowing bluegrass banjo style. Those lacking either of these skills are recommended to Basic Skills Banjo Camp or any Bluegrass Jam Camp.
Speed of playing is not a qualification. If you play slowly, that’s OK. You will learn to play faster.
Typical goals of this camp are:
* A. Developing "credible" solos that include melody and typical Scruggs licks;
* Playing cleanly at typical jam session speeds;
* Developing clear, even tone and steady rhythm;
* Learning new licks and positions up the neck;
* Increasing ability to improvise simple solos while jamming, and other jam skills.
Class limit: 20
