Qualifications

Advanced camp qualifications are somewhat hard to define, but are based on experience and attitude. The camp is intended for serious players who have been members of bluegrass bands. A basic knowledge of Scruggs style and repertoire is expected, and it is assumed that all players have a sizable repertoire, having been in at least one performing band.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a CD that includes their playing, or a homemade tape, or at least a brief letter explaining their qualifications and interests. Note: In the interest of including those on a career path in music, some scholarships may be awarded. To be considered, include a letter stating your circumstances.

Goals of this camp include:

* Refining banjo tone and solidifying rhythm
* Developing expressive capabilities in tone production, use of dynamics, accenting, and musical taste.
* Creating banjo tunes and interesting, appropriate solos and backup
* Learning useful positions and fingerings all over the neck
* Develop performance skills relating to entertainment value, overcoming nervousness, best use of microphones, etc.
* Developing style.

Class limit: 15
Scholarships available. Send band CD or tape and letter.
