Biography

I've been playing since 1961. Early interest in commercial groups like the Kingston Trio, The Highwaymen, PP&M as well as singles like Joan Baez Judy Collins etc. I was sent to England with the U.S. Air Force and encouraged to perform locally and then more widely in England and Scotland from 1964 to 1967. I met, travel with and played with some truly wonderful British performers and was inspired to improve my playing skills. After my enlistment was over I returned home, got a job and got married. The traveling life of a folk musician wasn't what I wanted. Still I stayed close to the music and folk musicians helping organize a local Folk Festival in South Central PA in the early 70's (Traceys Family Folk Festival). We had some great performers in the three short years we existed and I got to spend time with Elizbeth Cotton, Norman Blake, and Mike Seeger to name a few. Now that I'm close to retiring I'm losing the use of my hands slowly to joint stiffness nerve damage, carpals tunnel et al. I need to play more often to keep from crippling up completely. There isn't many musicians I've been able to find in Rural Perry County. But I'm close enough to the Harrisburg area to travel.
