Biography

I'm 48 years old, single, and started teaching myself to play a couple years ago. I play at home for fun and still consider myself a beginner. I've played in a couple group jam situtions at some folk song society picnics but everyone was always far beyond my skill level. I had fun anyway and kept up where I could but would really like to play with others who either are in my general range of skill or where I could learn to back up someone who may be more skilled.

I've never really played with just one or two others before and would like to. I realize I'll never be a great player as my manual dexterity is average at best, but I can play and sing a lot of songs and have a lot of fun. I also hope to keep improving and I think playing with someone else, besides being fun, would be a great way to learn more, especially where I'm making mistakes I may not even be aware of.

I like almost any kind of music though have a particular like for older stuff, Bob Dylan, etc. But if I hear something new I like and I can manage the chords I'll learn that too. I've written some satirical parody songs for work (I'm a cabinetmaker) and played them on special occasions there. I don't read music but will use a known melody and create new words for it, a good ol' folk music tradition.

I'm a flat picker and use basic strums with chords. My guitar is a Martin D-15 all-mahogany which has a very nice sound. I actually like to hear others play it so I can get the full effect.
