Biography
Fresno is in heart of the big San Joaquin Valley, where fine old time musicians like Kenny Hall still play and share their talent. He has influenced my knowledge of tunes for over thirty years.
Every Wednesday, a large group of assorted musicians; Jon Adams, Barry Shultz and others, gather and jam with Kenny at the Santa Fe Basque Restaurant in Fresno, from 5:30-7:30. The restaurant is located on the corner of Maroa and Shields, (behind the gas station). It is an open jam and a free family event.
Currently, I commute every two weeks to the pioneer village in Wawona (Yosemite), to play for the barn dances in a group called "The Wawona Philharmonic." The dances are mostly reels or squares with a live caller and are free. Donations are accepted. We will play our last dance on Labor Day weekend and start again on the Fourth of July of next year.
I also teach beginning fiddle and mandolin for Fresno Adult School, www.fas.edu
Lately, I've been smitten by the fiddle music from the southwest (Gu-Achi and O'Odham,) and have been learning this music from CDs.
"The Great Danes" and "Heartland Harvest" are two local bands that I play in and I'm very familiar with Scandinavian music. Email me: pick4you@yahoo.com to jam and share tunes.
