My husband (who is not a skilled banjo player) recently purchased a 1920's four string banjo. While it had an okay sound, it played horribly off key and so on my advice he got new strings for it. He had to choose between a heavy and a light string and I suggested the lighter strings. Submitted by nita on Sat, 2008/07/19 - 4:16pm.

Once again, for lack of a better place to post this sort of thing, I played the guitars, mandolin and some harmonicas as well as did the vocal on this tune, 'Till A Tear Becomes A Rose'. Most of the fun is doing the mixing. I love it. http://www.myspace.com/mattaspenlieder 'Till A Tear Becomes A Rose' Submitted by mraspy on Sun, 2008/06/22 - 11:47pm.

I try to make this one when I can. Hope to make it for and hour or so on April 12th. Does anyone know the name of the man on the fiddle last month. I had to leave before talking with him. He was awesome. The mood of the room really seemed to change when he joined in that afternoon. Harris "Lips" Deutsch Submitted by nearlynormal on Thu, 2008/04/10 - 10:46am.

I just saw a reference to this flow by on the fiddle-l and thought it was a great idea. It is a palm OS program that will play ABC tunes and show notation. If you already carry a phone such as the Treo, this is an interesting way to carry along a tune database so that you can keep track of how tunes start. http://www.palmabc.ganderband.com/ Scott Submitted by scott.mclewin on Wed, 2008/04/09 - 4:55pm.

Are there any other people out there who are looking to form a group with which to collaborate? I play 6 and 12 string guitar,a little flute, a little mandolin, a little sitar, and other hybrids in the making. I mostly do originals, but I would be willing to commit to a concept of doing traditional standards of celtic or other genres. I live in the Roswell area, and prefer not to travel lengthy distances, unless the situation is irresistable. Submitted by Ed McLennan on Sun, 2008/01/27 - 6:09pm.

I can do some traditional flatpick, and fingerstyle by the book if I have the book that is, (I do read music). But when it comes to my own music I kind of let myself go as far as the literal definitions are concerned and combine strumming with a little of this and that, and I don’t use a pick either. I have been invited to a few bluegrass jams lately (new for me), and haven’t played out for a few years now, and when I did we either covered, or rehearsed hours on end before playing. A question that seems to come up a lot is what style do you play. Submitted by Michael T on Tue, 2008/01/22 - 1:48am.

The Panhandle Bluegrass and Old Thyme Music Association held its annual Jamboree. I jumped in this year and got a room where I displayed many instruments for sale. I want to thank all who came by to look and those that jammed in the room. A good time was had by all is how the saying goes and it was at case the weekend of January 17-20. The picking rooms were full with the good sounds of great players. The hotel rooms were filled with folks with even more great pickers. I recommend if you go to this event for great fun and great playing. Submitted by davefg34 on Mon, 2008/01/21 - 12:34pm.
