The Wednesday Fiddle Jam
Every Wednesday at Mike's Home 7-10 pm
This is an acoustic instrumental jam. We play mostly fiddle tunes suitable for contra dancing and square dancing: New England Old Time and Traditional, Celtic, French Canadian and American Southern Old Time, some Scandinavian also on occasion and some waltzes and hambos. I try to keep the jam more entry level friendly than the full speed ahead session style jams popular in pubs and public places. We sit in a circle and take turns around the circle choosing a tune ... we usually announce the name of the tune and what key it is in. Sheet music is available. The jam is over 8 years old and well attended. This takes place at a workshop next door to my residence, so for privacy reasons I would prefer a "hello" email if you are interested and new to the group. Newcomers welcome! Tell me who you are and you your interests and I will send you directions. All acoustic instruments welcome.
Update: we take a food break around 8:45 and remove all sheet music. The last hour is sheet music free.
I also maintain a local (Ithaca) folk music email newsletter with jamming and listening opportunities. Ask me about that too!

Email me at for information on other open jams in the Ithaca area! I run a e-newsletter for that.
My jam is still happening every Wednesday and is little faster paced these days - but everyone gets to pick a tune and we play it at your speed :-)

This is still happening every week. The map here on "Folk Jam" shows the location of the Brooktondale post office ... my residence is further out in the hills than that, but still easy to get to. Email me for directions!
