Illinois Old-Time Fiddlers Association Monthly gathering
The Illinois Old-Time Fiddlers Association has a monthly gathering in Shelbyville,IL every third Sunday of the month. The Gathering is held at the Lion’s Club Building in Forest Park from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. The focus of the gathering is on keeping fiddle music alive, but the round-robin group also sings song (gospel, country, and tin-pan alley). Anyone interested in playing the fiddle, playing back-up for fiddlers, or just wanting to hear some fiddle music is welcome!
You can find out more about the Illinois Old-Time Fiddlers Association, including information on the annual contest, at http://www.illinoisoldtimefiddlers.org.
We generally do not meet for the gathering on the month of the contest--usually the contest is on the Sunday when we would normally have the gathering! Sometimes we have workshops or classes, and you should check the web site to see if any are scheduled.

Hi folks
I grew up in Illinois and have been in Australia for 30 years. Have been surfing the web for info on Illinois fiddling since white settlement--found sites about New Salem area and fiddlers there in 1800s--esp. Fiddler Bill Watkins--Edgar Lee Masters may have written this in a book I just got from Amazon about Indian place names in Illinois: These forty years twas old Fiddler Bill/Who lived by Tar Creek by Shickshack Hill/And played for the cloggers and the old quadrille". Anyone recognise this? Shickshack Hill may be Sh Knob 12 miles from New Salem.
Is there a book of researched Ill. fiddlers from way back?
Thanks from Louisa

The future dates for the monthly gatherings is correct. However, the dates found on the history section are not. It will always be on the 3rd Sunday of each month!

I hadn't been here to look at the comments. The map was correct because I had placed it manually, but the state was wrong. Shelbyville, Illinois is the place to be.

I finally visited this jam in February 2008 - It was a lot of fun and everyone is very friendly. I felt welcome and sat with the group and played banjo. I will try to make this jam as often as I can - If you have been thinking of stopping in - you should!
