Willimantic CT Quiet Corner Fiddlers
The Quiet Corner Fiddlers are a group of about 30 fiddlers who meet weekly on Tuesday evenings for a 2 hour round robin jam/practice and play out at local venues occasionally as a group. The group is fully active as of Aug 2010 and expects to continue indefinitely.
QCF is led by Chuck Morgan who does a great job encouraging new fiddlers. He keeps things fairly tight at the sessions... it is not a random jam... There is a practice/play list and many people bring written music to the weekly session. Tunes are mainly contra dance or other dance tunes from New England, Appalachian or British/Celtic tradition. Very limited amount of Bluegrass and this is a fiddle session, so extra guitars and banjos are not really welcome. There is occasional singing.
A very good way for a beginning to intermediate level fiddler to get going, and for anyone to meet some of the local fiddlers.
For more information, google "Quiet Corner Fiddlers".
Many of the members of this group are also members of the Old Fiddlers Club of Rhode Island, a separate but in many ways similar group.
