Peter O. Ruby bluegrass jam session in Prague (Jamy U Supa, Praha)

The jam sessions run every other Tuesday (see repeat details).
In November 2008, this jam celebrated its 4th year of existence.
The jam is also a meeting place for my band, "Peter O. Ruby with all Bells & Whistles" and our many friends, who are themselves often members of other local Prague bluegrass bands.

The purpose of this jam is to create space for:
1. English sung bluegrass (Czech lyrics are not excluded, but English is standard)
2. grass roots bluegrass community - everybody interested in acoustic bluegrass
3. beginner musicians and intermediate pickers without a band
5. regular meeting and picking event for any other musicians and fans alike.

The original purpose is still very valid as it proved it can keep up the motivation and enthusiasm of most of the regulars. :-)
There's plenty of opportunities to listen to bluegrass in Prague, but nothing beats the feeling of actively taking part of picking with some of the best players in the country.
It also became a meeting place for foreign bluegrass musicians passing through Prague.

It is still a very informal jam, sitting around tables, fully acoustic, approximately around 25 regular visitors. I welcome anyone willing to pick or listen and keep the jam session rules.
The saloon serves great Czech beer (original Pilsener and brand new brew Pardaal) and offers some great local cuisine of "cowboy and prairie food" for unbeatable prices (the blog at Czech Please complements the info about our jam by pictures and some video clips). The additional location info for you overseas hillbilly tourists - the Saloon "U Supa" is located at the top of the Na Cecelicce street, in the suburb of Smíchov. The nearest tram station is Bertramka (a place associated with the stay of one well known picker Mr. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the year 1787 and 1789 - this is the place where he finished his opera "Don Giovanni" - you can see the place by entering "Bertramka" into the Google Earth application. U Supa is on the opposite side of the valley, about 1/3 mile [500 metres]away).
Please note: I saw several times that the location selector stopped pointing to the right place at saloon U Supa. If this happens to you, just enter the 50.07338 for latitude and 14.39331 for longitude to get the correct spot.

Jam sessiony v saloonu "U Supa".
Jamy probíhají každé druhé úterý, letos pocínaje 8. lednem. V listopadu 2008 jsme oslavili už ctvrté výrocí jamu.
Samozrejme byste asi saloon U Supa našli jednodušeji zadáním do mapy na Seznamu, ale to byste si nechali ujít príležitost podívat se na celosvetovou mapu bluegrassových a folkových jamu.
Jam U Supa je také místem, kde se obcas sejde v plném poctu jak moje kapela "Peter O. Ruby with all Bells & Whistles", tak mnoho našich prátel, kterí jsou sami casto cleny jiných pražských bluegrassových kapel (napr. GrassRoad, Beeline). Úcelem tohoto jamu bylo vytvorit prostor pro:

1. anglicky zpívaný bluegrass (ceské texty nejsou vylouceny, ale anglictina je standard)
2. clenskou základnu (grass roots) bluegrassové komunity – pro kohokoli, kdo se zajímá o akustický bluegrass
3. zacínající muzikanty i pro pokrocilé pickery, kterí zrovna nemají kapelu
4. pravidelná setkání a možnost si jen tak "brnknout", at už jsi muzikant nebo jen bluegrassový fanda.

Puvodní úcel je dosud velmi platný – prokázalo se, že jam dokáže udržet motivaci vetšiny pravidelných návštevníku jamu. Jam se také stal místem setkání pro zahranicní bluegrassové hudebníky a jejich známé, kterí Prahou projíždejí nebo tady dlouhodobe pobývají (Lee Bidgood, Matt, Ben Pearce, Josh a další). Jam je zatím neformální, sedí se kolem stolu, je plne akustický (nepoužívají se mikrofony), pravidelná návštevnost je okolo 20ti muzikantu. Rád uvítám kohokoli, kdo má chut si zahrát a je ochoten dodržovat "nepsaná" pravidla. V saloonu se cepuje dobré ceské pivo (Plzen, Pardál, Staropramen, Kelt) a nabízí chutnou krmi ve westernovém stylu za lidové ceny (blog "Czech Please" doplnuje mou informaci o jamu i fotografiemi a dvema videoklipy).

Další informace o lokalite – saloon "U Supa" leží na horním konci ulice "Na Cecelicce" na Smíchove. Nejbližší tramvajová stanice je Bertramka (místo proslavené pobytem jednoho velmi dobre známého pickera, pana Wolfganga Amadea Mozarta v letech 1787 a 1789 – práve tady dokoncil svou operu "Don Giovanni" – historie chtiví "p?espolní" mohou nalézt ono proslavené místo zadáním názvu Bertramka do aplikace Google Earth nebo Google maps [Saloon U Supa leží na protejší strane údolí, asi 500 metru daleko]).
