Monthly Acoustic Jam

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The next acoustic jam is going to be delayed one week due to Martin Luther King weekend. We’ll kick it on Saturday, the 23rd of January, 2010 from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at Greg’s at 12832 Granada in Leawood, KS 66209. Mapquest is a good way to find your way there. Please keep in mind a few common courtesies to ensure a smooth and pleasurable jam:
- Each person in the circle gets a shot at leading the group in a piece of music by rotating either left or right. The Jam Host(ess) should specify which direction.
- Please avoid “noodling” (i.e., playing your instrument) in between songs while the lead person is trying to get the next song going in their head.
- Announce the key of the song and go through the chords for everyone if it is more than a 3 chord progression, or uses chord variations.
- Give everyone in the circle a chance to take the lead/break (i.e., do a solo on guitar, harmonica, fiddle, etc.). It doesn’t have to be done at one time/in one break, but everyone should get a shot before you end the number.
- Simply decline and pass to the next in the circle if you don’t have a solo. You can do that by stepping back and/or shaking your head side to side.
- Tone down your play. If you can’t hear the other person playing the solo, then you’re playing too loud. Likewise, be considerate of the vocalist and other strummers by playing only as loud as you need to hear.
