Jersey Jam 37 -- 12/27/2008
Light the Menorah,
Ring in that Christmas cheer!
It's Jersey Jam 37!
The Merriest Jam of the Year!
Jersey Jam 37, Saturday, December 27th, 2008 at my house in central NJ.
10am - lunchtime (typically 3 or 4 hours) with our now legendary pizza finale'.
It's NOT a formal open event in a public venue, it's just me inviting some folks to my home, as a way of making new musical friends. We have a small group of regulars and new folks stopping by from time to time. Most of us play guitar, though other acoustic instruments are welcome. We're usually willing to try all styles of popular music, and while we still consider ourselves beginners and want the jam to be beginner friendly, we're happy to have more experienced players sit in and inspire us.
This is an informal, beginners-level, casual get-together, hanging around in the basement making music, and we chip in for pizza at the end.
No pressure, and ABSOLUTELY NO "I'm not good enough" excuses.
You just need an instrument and a song in your heart. And a music stand is
helpful.
Song or theme suggestions welcomed! Encouraged! Pleaded for, even!

Hi Archjig. By now JJ37 is over, but I hope to see you in Jan. I have been to only three of the Jersey Jams (I live far away), but I wanted to tell you that it is such a blast, and everyone is so friendly. As far as song selection goes, there is usually something for everyone. Anything that you would bring will be given the old JJ try.
I wanted to comment on your avatar. I am an extreme Poco fan, and of all of the bands from that area and time--Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Eagles, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, CSN....

Hey Bonnieg...it's great to hear that someone has actually heard of Poco. It was just bad timing or karma on their part, cause they had been doing the country-rock thing for several years before the Eagles hit the bigtime. As great as the Eagles are, Poco has always been my biggest influence. Looking foward to the Jan Jam. See ya then.

Happy holidays everyone!
In the midst of all your seasonal madness, I was hoping that those of you who are planning to come to JJ37 let me know, and if you have a song suggestion, let me know that, too and I'll see if I can remember to get chord sheets printed out in advance.
See you soon,

Hi Andy - Just confirming that I will be at JJ37 on Sat. I'll be bringing the following song sheets (I'll bring at least 8 printed sheets).
Country Roads (John Denver)
Doctor My Eyes (Jackson Browne)
Hotel California (The Eagles)
And I'll take this opportunity to once again wish all here at the forum a very happy holiday season. Hope to see you at JJ37!

It may be a bit early, but I wanted to wish everyone happy holidays before things get real hectic as the time gets closer. Hope to see you you at the next jam.

Hey Andy, joining the fun on a Saturday sounds good to me. My musical tastes have taken me from Glen Campbell & Johhny Hartford thru the Byrds & the British Invasion (still my biggest influence),the 'original' punk era, country, americana, folk (just a player and an acoustic instrument is all I need), newgrass/bluegrass, etc. I play guitar & bass. I tried to teach myself mandolin but that fizzed out after awhile. Keep me in mind for anything you guys do after this month. Thanks.

Hey there, archjjg.
While there are some tunes we revisit quite frequently ("Knockin' on Heavens Door", "Star of the County Down" for example) we typically play whatever someone brings or suggests. Or try to, any way.
Send me a message with some introduction info if you'd like to join the group here on folkjam.

do you guys start out with a set of songs that you always play? or do the players bring in songs and you all figure it out there & then?
I'm in Rahway & would love to join in with you all. December doesn't work with me but January would be great. Thanks.
