Jersey Jam 35!
Sakes Alive! It's Thirty Five!
Jersey Jam 35, Saturday, October 11th, 2008 at my house in central NJ.
10am - lunchtime (typically 3 or 4 hours) with our now legendary pizza finale'.
It's NOT a formal open event in a public venue, it's just me inviting some folks to my home, as a way of making new musical friends. We have a small group of regulars and new folks stopping by from time to time. Most of us play guitar, though other acoustic instruments are welcome. We're usually willing to try all styles of popular music, and while we still consider ourselves beginners and want the jam to be beginner friendly, we're happy to have more experienced players sit in and inspire us.
This is an informal, beginners-level, casual get-together, hanging around in the basement making music, and we chip in for pizza at the end.
No pressure, and ABSOLUTELY NO "I'm not good enough" excuses.
You just need an instrument and a song in your heart. And a music stand is
helpful.
As Halloween is approaching, that might make for fun theme, so let's hear some song suggestions!
The more chord sheets we have ready in advance the more pickin' and a singin' and the less pointin' and a clickin' we get to do!

Sorry everyone, I don't expect everyone to keep track of my schedule and I forgot to send a reminder. I'm always unavailable 4th Saturdays. It sounds like the jam is really taking off and I wish I could be there. Hope to see everyone again soon.

Sorry! We'll try to keep the 4th Saturday in mind in the future. And we may do some jams on Sundays as well.
A floating Saturday has made it easy on my scheduling (only have to account for plans on 4 or 5 days a month and can schedule around my needs)
But as we get more regular jammers, if someone wants to provide an alternate venue, allowing us to commit to the same day every month, we can consider that as well.

So far, the only Saturday I cannot make is Nov. 15. So I guess I'm open to all the others.

OK, sounds like 11/22 is our best bet.
If I hear no major complaints today, I'll call it for then.
And remember, this will be our Third Anniversary Jam!

Hey Andy, I don't bake, but my wife said she is happy to do it. So in answer to "Who's going to bake the birthday cake?", that would be Mrs. Folkrocker (a.k.a. Kathy).

Thanks again for hosting the JJ Andy. Sorry you had to scoot so early. I had a great time. It was a bit breezy, but my nuked soft pretzel from the health food stand helped to warm my innards. It was great to meet Sean, Jay and Luke and see the others again. Sorry you had to leave so soon Stan. Andy, I'll get back to you with regard to available Saturdays. I know we're scheduled to visit a few colleges in November, so I hope I can make it work. If not, there's always the next one. Thanks again to all for the good jammin'. I truly enjoyed it!

Hey Andy and fellow JJ35ers
Thanks so much for making my first JJ such a pleasant experience. Ken's idea to move it to the park was a great one wasn't it? I really enjoyed seeing how the park patrons had to stop by and check out the jam. I think we came THIS close to being discovered by that producer that was observing.
Andy-Thanks for being such a patient jam leader and willing singer. I am looking forward to my next JJ and I will bring a few songs for us to try out.
Cheers,
Sean

I'm not sure if I missed it but did any dates get passed around for November?
It looks like I'm available on the 15th or the 29th.

Good seeing some new folks and some long-lost regulars.
It was short jam for some of us, feels like some folks just arrived when others had to leave, so hopefully I'll get play to play with you all again for even longer next time.
For those that stayed longer, tell us what you played!
And speaking of next time, what Saturday days in November are especially good or bad for anyone?

It was certainly a great day to be playing outdoors. The herd did thin out a little earlier than usual. Mike, Jay, Frank and myself stuck around for a while, ate health food from the health food stand and bull shitted for a little while before we began playing again. Mike was the next to leave. Then I was sitting between Jay and Frank and realized what a woefully inadequate guitar player I am. Fortunately, we concentrated on two songs I knew, "Wish You Were Here" and "Breathe" both by Pink Floyd. I guess we left some time around 3.
It was great to meet Sean and Jay as well as seeing Luke again after nearly a YEAR ! What's up with THAT Luke?
Safe bet we'll be indoors for the next several jams.
I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Yup, it was nice to take advantage of the nice weather, and having folks gather around to listen and tap their feet while we did "Star of the County Down" was really a rush!
I must say, though, that if we WERE a representative republic rather than a democracy, I'd have vetoed the congress and stayed put so that more people could have had more jamming time.

Gosh, between work,a wedding, and recent woes (had to say goodbye to one of my cats cause he was really ill with cancer) - I have not been a very good jammer. In fact, my guitars have been unplayed for months. Not good!
Hope to make it to the third birthday bash!!! JJ36, whodathunkit?!
Count me in!

Andy - whenever I drive up Rt. 1 and the traffic is bad, I always think "Boy, this would be a good time to drop in and jam till the traffic's gone!" Thinking some weeknight, we should do it! :-)

I'll see if I can come up with any more Halloween theme songs. So far just "Monster Mash" which I will bring. See you on Saturday.

The theme was just to get some idea...no need to stick to it rigidly...in fact, none of the songs I'm thinking of fit the theme.

I seem to have originally posted this jam notice in the public area, so some group members would not have gotten a notification email.
I hope you can all still make it! Do let me know, and suggest some songs, too!
