The Folk Music Society of Midland (FMSM) sponsors a monthly jam session on the second Friday of each month at the Midland Free Methodist Church, 5821 Eastman Rd., Midland. If you're coming from out of town, take the Eastman Rd. exit from US-10 and the church is 1/4 mile south on the west side of the road.

The jam goes from 7-10 pm, and acoustic instrumentals and singers are welcome. This jam is structured to be un-structured ;-). We supply the space, and you make the jam whatever you want it to be.

There are a number of open rooms, and you can usually find a group of instrumentalists and a group of singers going, but if nothing there really rings your chimes, you can feel free to head off to an empty room and start making some noise - if somebody likes what they hear, they'll come and join in!

Admission is by donation and bringing a snack to share is encouraged, too. Listeners are welcome, also, but this jam is designed more to give musicians a chance to hook up with other musicians and just play together rather than playing for an audience.

FMSM also sponsors the Mt. Haley Jamboree, which is actually more of an open mic (with other musicians always welcome to play along). The Mt. Haley jam is also listed in the FolkJam directory, and is more of a "play for an audience" format.

New musicians that aren't quite ready to step up to the mic and encouraged to just play along if they would rather do that - no pressure or stress! You can get the details for the Mt. Haley Jam under that listing.
