The Pretty Good String Band Jam
This jam session is open to acoustic stringed instruments. We will consider other acoustic instruments on a case-by-case basis: please contact Bev Allen (see above) for more details.
This is primarily a song circle, where each participant brings a couple of songs of his own choosing, distributes copies to the group, and we play through them. Beginners are welcome. Guitars, dulcimers, fiddle, mandolin, bass, harmonica and autoharp are the most common instruments. We also sing and harmonize (a lot!)
We are open to playing all kinds of acoustic music, although in the past we've tended towards folk, old-time, traditional, Western, and gospel. We also play on occasion Celtic, old standards, and bluegrass - just depends on who shows up on any given night.
We occasionally are asked to perform, and we do, but that's not our primary purpose.
Our main goals are to have fun, provide some free entertainment for our community, and improve our skills. This is NOT a deadly SERIOUS jam. We accept and respect everyone - no room for 'showboats' here. So leave your ego at home!
