We convene on the LAST Thursday of each month and have been meeting for over eight years.

As of 27 October, 2011 we have a "new home": The Red Lion, 130 Godstow Road, Wolvercote, Oxford OX2 8PG.

We encompass a number of ability levels, and we welcome and encourage all to join in: pickers, singers and those who simply want to listen to Bluegrass, Old Time/Appalachian acoustic music with a bit of old country music as well. We "do" tunes and songs and follow the bluegrass format: with participants taking people take a solo break in turn (if they want to) and to sing in close harmony.

We play a range of instruments including fiddle, (sometimes a viola), bass (tea chest, wash tub and classical), the occasional cello, banjo, guitar, mandolin, mandola, banjo, dobro and resonator family members, autoharp, mountain dulcimer and other acoustic instruments that can fit in with bluegrass and Old Time/Appalachian music. However, we would ask you to leave your percussive keys, spoons, accordions and meldoeons, sackbuts and crumphorns, darbukas and bodhrans at home or to check them at the door along with your guns and hunting rifle. Dodge City rules apply.

We meet between 8.00-8.30 to set up,tune and to have a drink and a "schmoozegrass"; we start playing around 8.30 p.m.

The pub has plenty of free parking if ou are driving. If you are using public transport, use the number 6 bus leaves the city centre at 00, 20, and 40 past the hour all evening. Get off at the last stop (Home Close) on the number 6 bus route. The pub is two mintes walk away. The last bus back to town is at 23.20, so there should be plenty of time to play ven if you join in later.

Come along or if your are in the area, either visiting or working temporarily; stop by and say "howdy" and don't forget to bring your "axe".

My friend Lucy Quinn runs a another jam in the south of the county on the SECOND Tuesday in Wallingford, Oxfordshire at the Cross Keys pub, just opposite the Kinecroft, near the village green. Full details of this jam are listed in FolkJam.

Ya'll come!
