I just wanted to encourage everyone to see Spoon River at the Longmont Theater. I was there last Sunday, and it is a superb production. KC, Bonnie, and the band did a great job--and the two of them even do a bit of acting--and do it with panache! Even if you hate musicals (where actors magically start singing in operatic voices out of the blue) you'll like this one, as the music is woven into the fabric of the stories the characters of Spoon River tell from the grave. Edgar Lee Masters revealed the underside of small town life in these character poems, written nearly a century ago, and they still resonate today. Spoon River was an important literary work in that it challenged the myths of American society. For anyone who likes old-time music, americana, character and story--don't miss this play. The large cast is superb, and they carry us into a web of small town life, confronting many of the same personal issues we still face today. http://www.longmonttheatre.org/
