Lawrence Sunday Night Old Time Fiddle Jam

We will have a fine pot luck dinner at 6:00 and then jam until 10:00. All (acoustic, stringed) instruments and all styles are welcome but the focus of the event is on playing in the old time fiddle style. In other words we generally don't take turns taking solos; everyone plays full blast all the time. In the Bluegrass style you spend most of the tune vamping and waiting your turn to take a solo. When we play through a tune 8 times you've played it 8 times, and you can steal licks from other musicians and road test them in real time. It takes some getting used to, especially for people from the more disciplined styles, but it can be a liberating experience.

This jam was moved from the Americana Music Academy to Lisa Harris' house and back to the Americana Music Academy. Come to the jam and ask us, and we'll tell you why.
