heh. I like that name - clever.

I've never named my instruments. I've called them names though...

Gibson J-100

I've called her Blondie for several years now. We're in a deep relationship you know! ..and she's got an attitude and curves that won't quit. She's warmed up to me the last few years and she's loosing her complexion a might, but I wouldn't trade her for a 'Swift Taylor'.

Storm

I call my hammered dulcimer Storm.

There's a lot of reasons, but I won't bore ya with em. SUffice it to say that I like studying and watching severe weather. (I'm a spotter, not a chaser -- yet.)

Jedidiah

My Alvarez is named Jedidiah because it means "Beloved of God". Friends have called inviting Jed to parties, and adding I could come if I liked... not quite sure how to take that... :)

I named my banjer Tupelo Butter

I've named my banjo Tupelo Butter, even had a sort of christening ceremony, poured some pbr on it and rubbed some pipe tobacco ash on it. The name was given it by my best friend's father who has brain cancer, I figure men with brain cancer don't just go around throwing out names for banjers lightly. Also the initials work well, because I can tell people I perform for that I've got the T.B.

Names

My 1984 Taylor Super Jumbo was christened "Sweet Thang" by a friend. All I can say about "Sweet Thang" is that I have playing her for so long its a good thing that she remember the words. Picture of her as my profile pic. - Big AL

Only Acoustics Get Names

My standup bass of 30+ years is Gertrude -- long ago a friend said she looked like a certain big-hipped German barmaid of that name. I've had my electric bass almost as long, but it doesn't have a name. My new bass, a Breedlove guitar-style instrument, is called Vicki, after my high school girlfriend, who was the other bass player in our school orchestra. In a similar manner, bicycles have names but cars do not. My bike is Sheherazade the Tenth, but my car is just it.

my banjo is Glamdring the Clawhammer, combining my love of Lord of the Rings with my love of old timey music, and my love of annoying my wife with my stupidity.

Names

My Rigel R-100 mandolin's name is Josephine. It's a whole 'nother story about how I got her, but after I got her my sister asked if I was going to name my new mando. My reply was that I hadn't really thought about it and that it would have to be one of those things that would just come to me INSTEAD of thinking about it. So one day I'm at work thinking about how a couple at our local jam are great Cajun players and I thought "Gee, I'd love to learn that tune 'Josephine', and it hit me! That's her name! You see, if it hadn't have been for this woman who was the matriarch of this very large local family that included many friends and also included my friend Randy I would never have "met" my mandolin. Randy was the friend who, unbeknownst to me, set the wheels in motion through getting folks to pitch in, made it possible for me to buy a very pretty and beautiful sounding instrument. I will never forget that night.
Josephine Leavitt (may she rest in peace) was Randy's grandmother. I thought the name was perfect. Oh, and Randy was my best man just a few short weeks ago. I love you my brother.

Name your Instrument

My husband named my Spencer guitar Bubblegum because it is pink. He liked to play it until he bought one for himself in black (Blackie). The only other of my instruments that has a name is my dobro. I call her Debbie after the local DJ who used to own her.

Naming Instruments

I've never named my fiddle, but if I did, it would probably be "Freddie" as in "Song of Norway" with Grieg's music. One tune was called "Freddie and his fiddle." My viola might be called "Olivia".

Naming instruments

I know a woman who calls her guitar Ethel Merman because it it has such a big voice. My banjo has a painting on the head of a merrow with long red hair, and so is called Ethel Mermaid.

Elkrafto, does Glamdring have a Tonering Of Power ? My banjo has something like that. When I pick it up, people wish I would disappear.
