Folkjam feed to facebook page/profile

Folkjam feed to facebook page/profile

So we just had a brownbag lecture on social networking, focused on facebook. I would expect that it is possible to make some sort of application on facebook that reads external rss feeds.

Is there an easy way to have the feed of a folkjam jam included within a profile "wall?". I'm a facebook newbie.

Facebook integration

We've been asking ourselves the same question. There are options with Drupal 6 to integrate with Facebook and we do intend to use them to allow people to mark the events and jams they like on the site and then show the upcoming dates on their FB wall. Our biggest challenge right now is moving from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 as our baseline. There are many thousands of lines of custom code to extend Drupal to make folkjam possible. Some of the things we had to hand-roll are now available out of the box in Drupal 6. It is taking time to reconcile all of that.

I don't know if there is an easy method to integrate an RSS feed into an FB profile. We have plenty of of rss feed options for jams already written. The question becomes how to consume that into one's Facebook profile.

Does anybody in our community have ideas?

I've looked around some

I've looked around some and I found a short tutorial at:

http://www.labnol.org/internet/tutorial-write-a-facebook-application/10116/

and I can see how I could write a particular app for myself, and may try it soon.

I may also experiment with the drupal6 option on a site of my own.

I managed to build one

Following the tutorial I posted above I made a facebook app that does the same thing as the "places you might see me" page on my personal page.

edit: I've tried to post the code, but the forum doesn't seem to want to let me.

Shetland Pony Express

Hey Scott,

Great website man, I had some friends give me a Folkjam card almost a year ago.

I think using FB would be a great idea for Folkjam. I actually am more prone to look at FB, plus I have it on my phone. So, if you were to post anything on FB I would receive it directly on my phone. I love hearing about jams/workshops/local talent.

Thank you,

I plan to put a lot of

I plan to put a lot of effort into getting is up on Drupal 6 over the Christmas holiday. Once that's in place, many more options open up.

Erich - you are correct that the forum blocks all but the basics for HTML and other markup. I totally trust you. It's the folks who want to post links to their free movie services that we have that in place for.

Shetland Pony Express - Lenexa, KS eh? Me too. Have we met?
