The 36th Annual Music in the Valley Folk Festival will once again be held at Hale Farm & Village, which now has new folk-friendly management. The festival will be co-sponsored by Hale Farm & Village and by Folknet. It will take place at the Farm on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. (Note: Hale Farm will only be open until 5 p.m.; jams may continue by moving elsewhere on the Farm after the closing of the Park. Musicians are encouraged to stick around. There will be entertainment in the evening.)
Folk musicians in all styles (old-time, Celtic, bluegrass, etc.) are welcome to jam throughout the grounds, and a number of participants from the Kent Shindig and Mud in Yer Eye will almost certainly be there. There will be NO ADMISSION FEE FOR FOLK MUSICIANS. However, guests will be charged $10 for adults, $5 for ages 3-18, and free under 3.
Camping is especially convenient for those who come a great distance to perform at the festival. Free camping will be provided, but if you plan to camp, you must call Kelly Hall at (330) 666-3711, ext. 234 or email her at kfalcone AT wrhs DOT org. Call as soon as possible to reserve a space. Camping is especially convenient for those who come a great distance to perform at the festival. The Farm has a food service on site where you may purchase food and beverages—food will be available until 5 p.m. both days. Or, you may choose to bring your own picnic lunch/supper. There are ample tables, inside and outside, and restroom facilities on the grounds.
Logistics: Folknet and the Park will be staffing a musicians' entrance and registration table along the fence near the front of the grounds. Please have both yourself and your immediate family members enter at the musicians' entrance and sign in at the registration table. Guests can pay for admission at the musicians' entrance.
Food: The HFV Cafe in the Visitor Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
So please plan to come and enjoy a weekend of folk music under the shade trees. Also, spread the word to your folk music buddies.
Directions: Get off of I-77 at Exit 143 and follow the Hale Farm signs down into the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley.
Questions or comments may be posted to Folknet's Secretary, Jim Stone, at (330) 668-3040. More information at http://www.wrhs.org/index.php/hale/haleeventsandprograms or http://www.folknet.org/
