"The Art of Flatpicking Guitar: Making Everything You Play Sound Better"

Developing better tone, timing, pulse, volume, dynamics, and fluidity on the acoustic guitar.

Audience: Intermediate and Above (If you consider yourself an "advanced beginner" the content will certainly be relevant to your playing, and you are welcome to come as well.)

Fee for the workshop is $50.00

In a series of beautifully crafted albums, acoustic guitarist, composer and 2008 GRAMMY nominee Russ Barenberg has created an “exquisitely original” and enduring body of work that joyously integrates bluegrass, jazz, and American/Celtic fiddle and dance traditions. His latest release, When at Last—which also features Russ’s sparkling mandolin playing—was nominated not only for a GRAMMY, but for the 2008 International Bluegrass Music Association Instrumental Album of the Year award as well.

Long at the creative forefront of the acoustic music scene, Russ has been tapped for collaborations by many of its finest artists, including Bela Fleck, Alison Krauss, Mark O’Connor, and legendary jazz bassist, Charlie Haden. Skip, Hop & Wobble, the award-winning 1993 release by his long-time trio with Dobro master Jerry Douglas and acoustic bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer, influenced an entire generation of musicians.

Along with millions of other viewers, you were likely moved by Russ’s emotional rendering of “Ashokan Farewell,” the main soundtrack theme in Ken Burns’, The Civil War. And viewers in the UK and Europe have gotten to know Russ over the past 15 years as both a member of the house band and a featured artist on the acclaimed BBC music programs, The Transatlantic Sessions.
