Jam...old time, Contra dance and Irish/Celtic ?
|
Hey Scott, is the Irish/Celtic tag new? I don't recall seeing this before. I might try to make the next jam you have on Feb 16, if you don't mind a box player. I do some old time stuff too. Roger Fox Submitted by Roger Fox on Mon, 2008/01/21 - 6:31am

Roger,
It is new in the title of the session post, but not new in our repertoire. I think the tunes we play can sort of be classed as "fiddle tunes", but that's unfair to the hammered dulcimer, guitar, mandolin, squeezebox, bass and viola players in the group. :) We draw from the OT traditions, Contra dance music and Irish/Celtic tunes with a nice balance of ballad, country and bluegrass coming in too. It's a pretty varied session and we are open to pretty much any tune that somebody wants to bring to the circle. Sheet music is welcomed and encouraged to feed to the rhythm players and the sight readers, but it is not required. We drift between chorus break-taking style and ensebmble style playing.
You would not be the first person to bring in a squeezebox (where did you go Becky?) and we'd certainly love to see you at our February session.

She didn't go anywhere. I just don't like getting up early on a Saturday and driving in the FREEZING! cold and snow, that's all. But don't think you've gotten off that easy. Before long I'll be back and I'll be packing some crooked tunes with no sheet music, playing my cross tuned fiddle, maybe a squeeze box, and I'll drive ya'll crazy once again! :/)

Yay! Bring on the crooked tunes. I'll keep hauling out the stuff with several flats in the key signature. :)
Is February National Dueling Squeezebox Appreciation Month?
