Hello all
|
Thank you for your hospitality. The name's Chris unless you actually prefer tesseract. :-) A little history is order I suppose. Way back in high school some 20 years ago I started a garage band of my own. We were together for a few years and played a few gigs mostly parties. Once I hit college though my personal time shrank considerably. Between work and study I couldn't dedicate the necessary time to my band and we all went our separate ways. I've kept up with the latest tech (line 6 spider III 150 amp and foot peddle pod) now that I can afford to but I just haven't found the motivation to really buckle down and practice regularly. My skills have atrophied considerably from my high school days but lately I've had a great desire to find musicians to jam with again and to make a commitment to becoming the guitarist I want to be. I've never had formal lessons and most of what I know comes from tab. I have started to study theory on my own but the topic is quite dry without a venue to meet others and share concepts and ideas through the practice of playing music. I'm willing to work as hard as necessary to learn new songs and I'd like to have the opportunity to jam with all of you. Please don't expect much the first meeting but once I get my feet under me I have a hell of a work ethic. Lastly a short note on my user name I went to school for a duel major in theoretical mathematics and particle physics. Currently I work as a robotics engineer in Bristol PA. My particular interest in college was nth dimensional mathematics which was just starting to really go into all kinds of strange directions with the inclusion of hyper gravity to string theory. Anyway enough of that. I'm actually a rather normal person in real life, I just have strange hobbies. :-) Submitted by tesseract2002 on Wed, 2008/12/10 - 8:03am

Welcome again, Chris.
I tried to send a message the other day but it appears to have disappeared, so here it is again:
If you'd like to come to the December jam, let me know where you're coming from and I'll give you directions.
We're primarily acoustic, but if you want to plug in, we'll give it a try and see if fits. I have brought out the Strat and the P-Bass on occasion.
Suggest some songs you might like to try and better yet, bring copies of chord sheets!
And please leave that work ethic at the door. If this starts feeling like work, I'll give it up!
From theoretical physics to robotics engineering, eh? Good that you had a trade to fall back on....

Thank you again for the invite.
I'm going to be coming from Mount Laurel NJ I already have you in my GPS in the car though so I should be good on directions all I need is the address in Fords. It looks like it's about an hour and 10 to get up there. I used to work at Algen Design Services up around there in Eatontown and that was about the time it took me to get to work in the morning so I guess it's a good estimate.
I have a beat around Acoustic that I've kept around for camping trips and song writing out doors. I need to have some work done on it though (i.e. new nut and two new pegs for the bridge) so if I can get that done on time I'll bring that. Mind you it sounds little better than a cigar box guitar but it's a work horse. :-) My band back in high school was your typical hair band of the time if not a little on the Goth side so the vast majority of my equipment is... well... Lets just say it's a little over the top. :-) (And the understatement of the year award goes to...)Personally, however, I listen to and love to play all kinds of music. If I have to bring one of the electrics I assure you I can get a very nice clean acoustic sound with the amp I have so I'll be able to blend in. At least until I can get my acoustic in better shape.
I think I would like to just sit in on the first session and get a feel for what you guys like to play and how you play it before I start making suggestions for the set list. Believe me I'm not shy and I'll be more than happy to bring ideas and material the next time if this seems like a good fit for all involved. If have a list of the most likely songs you guys will be playing that would be great though.
If I could check the work ethic at the door I'd love to. Not so sure it's in my wiring though. Fear not however, I assure you I'm not the type to try to bend others to my world view. Rather I enjoy observing and learning from others. Maybe some of the casual atmosphere will rub off on me with time. :-)
