Mapping Woes - continued

I just had some time to browse through the new setup, and really like what you have done with the site!

I particularly like the fact that you have 3, count 'em, 3, mapping programs available. Now, it would be really nice if a site (like totmc) could select which service to use. I tested all three, and found that Mapquest is the only one with the proper placement and directions to the Oro Valley Public Library, even with the street address and zipcode. The problem is, it isn't the default service - in fact, it is the last choice of the three.

In an attempt to help people, I have edited the jam entry to suggest that people use the Mapquest service to find directions. This should help, but I would like to see it as the first choice - at least for my group.

Any chance on making this possible?

Thanks Brad! We've been

Thanks Brad! We've been working hard to take what we think we've learned about how folks use the site and making good changes with it. So far I think this batch of interface changes was really time well spent. The site had gotten way too cluttered with our previous layout and something just needed to be done.

We've actually had all three of those links (to google, mapquest and yahoo) available from the start! Although I think that clutter hid them, or at least made them less obvious.

The design of those mapping links didn't take into account customization of the order on a post by post basis - it is simply not something that we even considered. Given that software is what it is, the change you are asking for is certainly something that 'could' be done, but whether we'll have time to do it in the scheme of things is the more challenging question. If we did make a change in this area, I think what I'd rather do is give you the option to pick which services you want to display links to instead of changing the order.

Our laundry list of medium to small impact changes is quite long. I see the utility of what you are asking for and would love to be able to simply get it done, but I don't think we'll be able to get to this very quickly.
