Looking to connect with somebody local to play with?
|
We've just added our local musician map to the site. The goal of this feature is to allow you advertise the instruments and styles of music you play to other users in your area. Give it a try. If you are a registered user you can add yourself to the map from your "Jam profile" page within your user account. You can even type up a short message to display along with your map pin. If you have not signed up with folkjam and are looking to find users in your area then sign up, type in your city, and add yourself to the map. Just leave feedback as comments to this post. We want to know how you like this latest addition to folkjam.org Submitted by scott.mclewin on Thu, 2008/02/14 - 8:04pm.

Sure will be nice when Scott and Shawn get off'n their butts, writes us some dynomite software and get us a virtual jam. We all sit in front of our computers and make music to what comes out.

Anyone knowing of any good Old Time/Bluegrass Jams for beginners in the Harriman Tn. area, or anyone who would like to start a jam in that area please contact me at Woodstack2002@yahoo.com. I have been to a few local(within 100 miles) jams but they have mostly turned out to be Bluegrass and Gospel contests and are not very welcoming to newcomers and those wishing to learn.

Crowman7,
Bluegrasshack here! Check out the Rocky Branch Community Center in Walland some Friday night. I was in E TN last Friday (3/21/08) and found that jam to be just amazing! So many players, skill levels, fans, and all the rest. On Hwy 321 going toward Townsend, turn right onto Rocky Branch Road (beside yellow antiques shop) and it's just about the first thing you see on the left. It was a school at one time. Wood-n-Strings Dulcimer Shop on Hwy 321 in Townsend will have additional infomation about local jams. Dock's Motel--further in on Hwy 321--will also have info about music in the area.
I'll be happy to send you my little creation called "Betty's List of 2008 Area Jams, Festivals, and Contests," if you wish. It covers a lot of music in TN and neighboring states. You may contact me at bwestmoreland9@msn.com if you would like to have that list. It's in MSWord and you can download and print it.
Pick away!
