Looking for a tollerant Jam near Magee, MS

Hi I have been unable to find any local jams or even a banjo teacher anywhere near my area. As a result I have yet to play with anyone else.

MS quiet so far

I know what you mean, serial OC. I have immediate family in Magnolia (a ways south of Magee for you non-gulf coast types) and I've been patiently waiting for jams based that area to show up on the site so that I can stop in when I'm down for a visit.

I have been told about of a number of local festivals where there is also jamming but have yet to learn of any groups that meet regularly, which surprises me a little. I'm sure they exist, we just have not heard from those communities.

Hopefully sooner or later we'll get a posting on our maps and calendars or maybe even a folkjam group or two formed.

Until then, I'm waiting patiently along with you. :)

Stop waiting

I was waiting for a regular jam group to post its existence in my area. Didn't happen, so I started one myself. In the first 3 weeks, I've had 7 people sign up and we've had 2 get-togethers.

You have at least two people wanting to jam in your area. Start one yourselves - its easy and very fun.

By the way, I am a novice player who had never played with anyone before I started my regular jam -

Couldn't agree more

Hi jwing,

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately I don't live in southern MS, but only go there to visit my a family a few times a year. Also, SerialOC's home town of Magee isn't all that close to where my family lives so it's really not even an option to get together when I come through the area. Luckily, I find no shortage of jams in the Kansas City area where I roost most of the time ( including our own group ).

Good on you jwing, for starting your own group when there was none to be found in your area. I'm constantly amazed at the community spirit evident when people want to play acoustic music together. Thanks also for posting the jam here with us. I hope we can bring a few more folks to your event.

If your group hasn't found an online home yet, then I might recommend having a look at our free group service. You can organize and publicize your get togethers, recruit people to sign up and keep them informed with group e-mails and forums on the site.

Either way, I hope your jam goes well and if serialOC stops back in I certainly hope he has found a group of friendly pickers in his area.

Take care.
