Hey folks, tell us where you live
Every day I see lots of new people joining Folkjam which is great. I'm sure there are many people that aren't really looking for formal jams, specially newer players, but wouldn't you like to get together with just a couple people in an informal setting? Lot's of good learning and song sharing. When you sign up, check that box that puts you on the musician's map. If you just check the "send a private message", I have no idea if you're in Detroit or Hong Kong. Putting yourself on that map does not give away any personal info such as your name or address. It only enables me to send you a message to see if you're interested. You can even ignore it, but you might be missing a good time. Write a little bio so we know what kind of music you like. There's another little box to check so that you get an email when someone sends you a message on this site. That's for those folks who sign up and then don't check back regularly.
This site has a lot of potential other than formal jams so take advantage of it. I'm an old guitar player but pretty new on the 5-string. I'd love to find a guitar player that I could pick with and not embarrass myself.
Sterling Grass

If it were not for this website, I would be missing out on the jams in my area. Yes, I added my location when I joined, and it was through the other contacts on the map that I found a jam close to home. There is nothing like being in a jam session with people who are encouraging to a beginner. I just do back-up, but I hope to some day be able to say, "OK," when it comes time for a banjo break. I am working on it. mj
A year ago last April I tried to organize a jam here in chanute,Ks. for the lack interest I quit sponsoring . I would like to find some jams here in southeast ks. I play bass and for something else to do with my time I play rhythm. I am a serious player.
I agree. If you wish to play with others, you should put yourself on the map. I also am fairly new to the 5 string banjo, and have met Sterling grass in person. We met as a result of this website, and so far had an afternoon of picking together that I found most enjoyable. I have tried to get together with Sterling and a few friends that pick near here a few time recently, but so far have had something like bad wether or work interfere with those efforts. I am sure we will do so very soon though, Tom Brien
This site has introduced me to where the jams are in my area. Yes I am on the "Olathe map". It was easy to change my former location.
We just lost a great one at Mountain Music in Shawnee, Kansas.
As a new ukulele player I was glad to see there the KC Ukesters found a home at the St. Pius Church..55 and Woodson in Mission.
It is interesting starting over on a new instrument. Boy were my fingers tingling for a while. Folks were patient with me and guided me to replace my beginner ukes strings to Aquilla.
After playing a whole month...I have added playing my harmonica..though I have not played them both at the same time during a jam (yet)

Hey Bill, Thank you kindly for your invitation. I will take you up on it if I get down that way anytime soon. Right now times have been tough for me ( and everybody else ), so I will have to keep it local. I do really appreciate being asked, Tom Brien
