a few lessons???

Hello,

I recently became the proud owner of a banjo. Problem is I've never played one before, but would love to learn. Looking for somebody in the Kansas City area who can provide some lessons. Thanks.

Banjo Lessons

Hi, welcome to all things Banjo! Go here,
http://www.banjohangout.org/ and on the left will be a tab marked Members. You can search for members in your area. Do you know what playing style you are interested in, or are you unsure? There is also a Jukebox tab where you can listen to music and determine what style you like best. Most jazz and Irish style players use 4 string banjoes, most folk, old time & bluegrass players use 5 string models.
If you have further questions, you can contact me or other members here or there through the forums. Have fun.

I taught myself to play some

I taught myself to play some bluegrass banjo using a lesson book by Earl Scruggs. It's still in print, 2nd edition I think. It's pretty basic at first and progresses rather quickly. It probably helps to have some music experience but I don't think it's required. To date I can (could) play about 3 songs, but I haven't been doing it since college (a Long time ago).Love the banjo, though!
