another suggestion for FOLKJAM.ORG

Scott: I was just entering details of two of the other long-running
trad sessions in Galway: In the form, it has "start time" and
"end time", but it seems it is impossible to enter an end time
after midnight? I wanted to enter start at 10.00pm and finish at
12.30am, but the code of course thinks 12.30am is before 10.00pm.

Many jams I guess finish (well) after midnight!?

For the moment I've entered an end time of 11.59pm.

By the way, do you know about http://www.folkmap.co.uk/
it does similar stuff to folkjam.org (not as nice though -
only british isles.....)

What you found is a design

What you found is a design trade-off. I decided to simplify the user input form by not including the ability to span midnight, since doing so would need a "day 0"/"day +1" indicator or dates, which would be confusing for some. There were also nuances to the implementation, so I left it off.

You can set the end time equal to the start time - doing so will cause the end time to simply not display. Rarely do jams that run past midnight have a rigid ending time, especially in a pub. :)

I have updated the description of the end field on the submission form to include this information, thank you for prompting me to do that.

Neither Shawn nor I had seen folkmap.co.uk - that is a neat site. I agree that the creator of it did not put as much emphasis on usability as we have for folkjam.org, but it is still quite useful for those who are looking for music in the UK and Ireland. That narrower scope brings me back to this time last year when we were joking about having a world jam map, figuring that folkjam might never get beyond our own postings in Kansas City. Actually, for the record, Shawn was joking about the world jam map that I added to the site. I believed in it all along. :)

I'm glad we put the effort into making the site work globally. We've had a burst of posts from outside the US in the past week and are really pleased with that.
