The Huron Township Applefest (a community arts & crafts festival) sponsors the Michigan State Championship Old-Time Fiddlers Contest the first Saturday in October. Contestants are judged on Rhythm, Tempo & Timing; Clarity & Intonation; Expression; Repertoire. There is a non-refundable $10 entry fee. The contest is open to all age groups. First prize is $300, second prize is $200, third prize is $100. The contest is held outdoors, so dress warmly. The contest is sponsored by the Huron Township Applefest, Psarianos Violins, DoSan's Awards and the Les Raber Memorial Foundation.
