Prairie Moon May Music Festival
Prairie Moon Waldorf School’s third annual May Music Festival on May 3 features nine locally-grown bands, from blues to bluegrass. Add in a maypole dance, children’s crafts, seven picnic-perfect acres and free admission, and you have a truly family-friendly event.
The festival begins at 11 a.m. at Prairie Moon, at 1853 E. 1600 Rd., just east of the Lawrence airport on Highway 24/40. Students will decorate the school’s maypole and perform, followed by The O’Shea Sisters; Alonzo Beardshear; The Heebie Jeebies; Vera, Chuck and Dave; Lila; Jimmie Meade and Lee McBee; Charlie Robie; The Konza Swamp Band; and The Jam Band with Michael Bradley. All are Kansas bands, and they’ll be performing bluegrass, Americana, roots, acoustic, folk, classic rock and blues live until 7:30 p.m. Concessions will be available, and there will also be a plant and straw sale.
Prairie Moon is a developing member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, and it draws early childhood to sixth grade students from across northeast Kansas. Waldorf, founded by Rudolf Steiner, is the world’s fastest-growing non-sectarian educational movement.
