Four days of nonstop old time music at venues throughout Berkeley, CA. Concerts, square dance, old-time string band contest, open mic cabaret, workshops, jamming and children’s activities. All ages welcome!
Guest Artists include:
-- 88-year old fiddle master, BENTON FLIPPEN from Surrey County, North Carolina is known for his bluesy fiddle style. He will be joined by banjo player and NPR producer, PAUL BROWN, and 71-year old guitarist FRANK BODE from Mount Airy, North Carolina.
-- Ballad singer and storyteller, SHEILA KAY ADAMS from Sodom, North Carolina has kept the tradition of southern ballad singing alive for seven generations. Adams was the musical advisor for the movie, “Songcatcher”.
-- REYNA GELLERT, is a second generation fiddler with the all-woman string band, Uncle Earl.
-- FOGHORN STRING BAND, a rollicking string band from Portland, Oregon.
-- The STAIRWELL SISTERS, the Bay Area’s own sorority of sweet harmony, steel strings and step dancing.
-- BRANDY SNIFTERS, old-time band from Minneapolis.
-- Multi-instrumentalist, EVO BLUESTEIN.
-- Former Convention contest winners, the SQUIRELLY STRING BAND, from Berkeley, CA.
-- And many more!
Taking place at the Freight & Salvage, Ashkenaz, Civic Center Park, Jazzschool, Jupiter and others.
