24/7 at Mountain View, Arkansas
Mountain View Arkansas is, by acclimation, the jammin' capital of the known galaxy.
Every day, when it is not cold enough to freeze fingers, but mostly on weekends, there are dozens -- sometimes hundreds -- of groups, from three to a dozen or more, playing on the square, in a small park dedicated to the purpose, or in lots, parking areas, front yards, businesses, porches, etc.
There are a few "knee knockers", but they are locals who full of themselves.
Almost every group welcomes everyone into the group, regardless of ability.
Forget a lyric now and then, even be off key once in a while, but NEVER be off time.
Be ready to play, pick something that has instrumental breaks, don't try to give solo "cafe" performances, and HELP WHEN ASKED, but don't be pushy.
[ and nobody wants to hear 87 verses of ..... whatever ]
Music is Bluegrass, Classic Country, Gospel, Blues, and everything between.
NO ELECTRIC INSTRUMENTS, AMPLIFIERS, MIKES, OR SPEAKERS
ACOUSTIC EVERYTHING
The odd accordian, sax, or this or that is always around.
Spectators encouraged to sing along, dance, clap and laugh.
The town is built on accomodating pickers and fans, with hotels, motels, B&B's, and a slew of RV parks.
The Big times are Spring fest in April, Memorial Weekend, Labor Day Weekend, and Bean Fest near Halloween. But, as I said, EVERY day is pickin' time.
No, I am not a business owner there, nor a member of the city council. Just a regular from about 120 miles away that enjoys the place and likes to see more and newer folks (over July 4th, I met folks from Japan, Finland, and at least a dozen states) come and enjoy.
