This can be a power session with up to 15 musicians sometimes. Very common to see 6-10. We play mainly 'pure drop' traditional irish tunes. ***The craic is mighty***

The Gaf has good food, drinks and a very supportive landlord.

There is always a good crowd of punters, including a bevy of lovely ladies who come for the tunes, drinks, dancing and who generally like to get out of line.

Start:

This jam occurs weekly at the new Americana Music Academy location in Topeka, KS. This jam plays various styles of music from Bluegrass to country to acoustic folk and rock. This is an Aooustic jam so only acoustic instruments are allowed. The jam consists of various levels of players and singers and takes place in a large open room. Listeners are always welcome. The playing level of this jam is generally attended by fairly advanced players. Everyone is welcome to participate but if you are looking for a higher level of jamming this is one of those groups.

Start:

There will be NO session on Saturday December 24th, 2011. The Parkside Coffee Shop is closed that day to give their staff time off for Christmas. Our next jam is a special session the evening of December 31st at Scott's house.

Start:

Our meetings consist of playing ukes, yapping about ukes, and learning about ukes. At each of our gatherings, members are encouraged to print out and bring a new tune. We always try and have some for the novice as well as the more intermediate (should I say advanced?) musicians. There are no egos and everyone is there because they love ukuleles and ukulele music.

A chance for area talent to perform at a great live venue. Maloan's Bar & Grill is located in downtown Garnett, Ks., in a century-old renovated bank building. Great food, great drinks, and My 3 Songs every Wednesday from 5:30-7:30. Call ahead (785) 448-2616 to get your name on the list. General rules are, you get 3 songs before giving up the mike to the next act. If there's a shortage of players and time remaining, you can cycle back through another three tunes in the same performance order as before. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and fun people.

The Heart of America Old Time and Bluegrass (HABOT) association runs a monthly jam at 6pm October through April in Kansas City's Northland. See their web site for contact information and directions.

This jam is a huge affair with room after room of players playing away at bluegrass, country, old time, fiddle tunes and pretty much anything acoustic instruments can muster. It at the atmosphere of a picking festival. There are groups playing at just about every skill level, and a bluegrass show in a main performance space for those who don't bring an instrument.

The Irish Center is on the lower level of the station just at the bottom of the escalators. We play mainly 'pure drop' Irish traditional tunes every third Sunday of the month. Occasionally we play for the Driscoll Irish Dancers - check the Irish Center website for dates: http://www.irishmuseum.org/

All (acoustic, stringed) instruments and all styles are welcome but the focus of the event is on playing in the old time fiddle style. In other words we generally don't take turns taking solos; everyone plays full blast all the time. In the Bluegrass style you spend most of the tune vamping and waiting your turn to take a solo. When we play through a tune 8 times you've played it 8 times, and you can steal licks from other musicians and road test them in real time.

This is a great jam hosted at St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Riverside, MO. It is put on by the members of the church. It is set up like a concert, with the player's chairs facing an audience, but it is not run like a concert. The song selection passes around the room, and the selections include old-time fiddle, celtic, country and the rare blues/rock number. Acoustic instruments and voices make up the group. The church members kindly "pay" the musicians with home made cookies and cakes. All skill levels are welcome.
