This can be a power session with up to 15 musicians sometimes. Very common to see 6-10. We play mainly 'pure drop' traditional irish tunes. ***The craic is mighty***
The Gaf has good food, drinks and a very supportive landlord.
There is always a good crowd of punters, including a bevy of lovely ladies who come for the tunes, drinks, dancing and who generally like to get out of line.
The festival portion of "Lawrence Scottish Fest" includes a traditional jam session from 6:00-8:00. Traditional Scottish treats are provided for participants, and players can attend the concert portion (8:00-9:30) for free. All traditional instruments welcomed. See pictures from last year's jam session at www.LawrenceScots.Org.
This year marks our 13th annual celebration of traditional and contemporary Scottish music and culture at the Lawrence Arts Center.
The festival portion, 5:30-7:00, features a traditional Scottish jam session plus bagpipes, food, info booths and dancing.
The concert portion, 7:00-9:30, features contemporary Scottish music performed this year by the bands Uncle Dirtytoes and Forest Green, plus Robert Burns poetry & more bagpipes. See the website at www.LawrenceScots.Org for pictures from last year's celebration with special guest Connie Dover.
The jam session trades 15 minute blocks of time with the bagpipes from 5:30 to 7:00. Free traditional Scottish treats are provided for participants, as well as free admission to the concert that starts at 7:00.
See the website at www.LawrenceScots.Org for details.
We do potluck at 6:00 and jam until 10:00. We play the old time fiddle tunes on fiddles, banjos, mandolins, guitars and such. All acoustic.

Our meetings consist of playing ukes, yapping about ukes, and learning about ukes. At each of our gatherings, members are encouraged to print out and bring a new tune. We always try and have some for the novice as well as the more intermediate (should I say advanced?) musicians. There are no egos and everyone is there because they love ukuleles and ukulele music.
The Kansas City Area Bluegrass Music Club has monthly jams on the 2nd Friday of the month, October thru May, in Independence, MO (15 miles east of KC, on I-70).

Our January jam was a great way to start off the year. Three weeks into it. :)
For those considering joining us, we meet on the third Saturday of January for our regular jam session where we play primarily contra dance tunes, Irish and old time songs. Bluegrass, gospel and other acoustic music are certainly welcome, we just tend towards the tunes in our tune book.
Join this group and look in the files area to see sheet music and midi files for our regular tunes.
