Friday Night and Feelin' All Right!
Psssst! May I tell you? It was Friday night (Nov. 2) and jammers were feelin' all right! Ready to pick, they were! We finally conceded that it is indeed November, we caved in to Mother Nature, and we went indoors to the Church of the Redeemer (Episcopal) in Collierville, TN.
It was what I needed! I had just returned from Nashville, where I attended the visitation/funeral of Porter Wagoner. His fine family have been my friends for close to 40 years. The bluegrass connection there in the Grand Ole Opry House was strong, even though Porter was considered to be a country music star. His friends who sang for him were like a "bluegrass who's who," with none other than Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, The Whites, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Dolly, and so many others from the Opry who came to celebrate the life of "The Thin Man from West Plains". Go rest high, Porter!
But, I digress. Now, where was I? The generous congregation at Redeemer opened their doors, their hearts, and their coffee pot for another great winter season of music in Collierville, TN. To be honest, there were so many pickers and grinners there, I couldn't even begin to count them all! In every corner, every Sunday school room, in the kitchen, the fellowship hall, and even out on the front porch--there was major bluegrass music flowing! Awesome!
We even had Tony and his wife, who visit us from Alaska from time to time! Now, that's some long way to come for a jam! Welcome, y'all! You're invited, too! Fridays 6:30-ish (Central) 'til around 10-ish. It's free. All skill levels are welcome. Even if you don't play a note, you're welcome to pour yourself a cup of coffee, sit down, and enjoy the music. Say your kids are out of high school and there's not much to do on Friday nights? They're too old for the team or the marching band? Have we got a spot for you!
See you next Friday at the Church of the Redeemer at 3100 So. Houston Levee Road in Collierville, TN. We'll leave the latch-string out!
Pick away!
